​The Mansion is available for rent year-round.  Come for your special family vacation, a milestone celebration, a retreat, a family office or company offsite, a mastermind getaway, or to accommodate your group for a nearby event here in the heart of the Berkshires. 

 

The Mansion comfortably accommodates 14 guests in the seven main bedrooms, plus 10 in the five smaller bedrooms.   We welcome all ages.  You can see the first floor plan here.  See the second floor plan here.

The Mansion is not available to host events, such as parties or weddings, for guests who are not staying onsite.  Milestone celebrations for the onsite guests, up to 24, are welcome. 

 

At the turn of the last century, America's prominent families created grand retreats in Newport, Bar Harbor, and The Berkshires.  These mansions and estates were designed so that families could leave the chaos of the city and come together in gorgeous settings.  The Carnegies, the Vanderbilts, the Morgans, the Winthrops and others chose the Berkshires and created a flourishing community.  In the mid-1980s, eight of the most prominent and beautiful estates were designated by Lenox as its "Great Estates."  Seven of them are now beloved institutions that are enjoyed by hundreds, if not thousands, of guests each week.

One of them, The Winthrop Estate at Ethelwynde, has been restored to its original use as a single family home and is now a private retreat on more than forty acres with bridle trails, towering century-old trees, expansive outdoor space and modern amenities.

The mansion rests on a hill overlooking the great lawn and Yokun Ridge.  This Berkshire "cottage" contains five elegantly decorated bedroom suites with private bathrooms. Additionally, the West wing offers a gorgeously appointed two bedroom suite with shared bath. The North wing provides an additional five bedrooms with a shared bath.  From the modern kitchen to the wood-paneled library to the plant-filled conservatory to the 1,000 sf terrace overlooking the lawns to the formal dining room, guests will enjoy living in an historic, elegant family residence.​​
